“Actionable Books is movement as much as it is a business” -Chris Taylor
Chris Taylor, Founder of Actionablebooks.com is my guest on episode 21 of the Art of Adventure Podcast. Interestingly, I used Actionable Books before I ever met Chris – it is where I go when I start each new business book. I like to get a sense of what I should be looking to learn from each book before I start (to save time and get through more books) so I usually read one or two summaries before I start.
Chris started interviewing authors back in 2009 for his actionable workshops, and a deeper calling to teach the 21st century skills sets led the company to slowly morph into the business it is today. Actionable Books now has over 38 consultants in 7 countries, and 100 people writing book summaries around the world. Chris currently runs Actionable Books from an island off the coast of Panama and Costa Rica, previously he was living in a cave in Spain. He and I share a unique attribute in that we are not your typical 22 year old single male digital nomad, but are both married and our wives are a big part of our nomadic lifestyle.
In this episode, Chris shares his thoughts on living abroad, deliberate decision making, the 21st century work environment, taking action, fear of missing out (FOMO), and (re)setting your daily routine by moving abroad. If you have ever wanted to start a movement or run your business from an exotic location, this is the interview for you!
What you will learn in this episode:
-How to make deliberate lifestyle decisions
-How to use your network to learn new things and start new projects
-How to combine being a digital nomad and being happily married
-How to turn a business into a movement
-What skills are required to run an international business like Actionable Books
-How to focus on improving the parts of your life that you can control
Mentioned in this this episode:
Books that Chris started taking action with:
The One Minute Millionaire: The Enlightened Way to Wealth
In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America’s Best-Run Companies
How Successful People Think: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

This experience of reading maybe a little too much about business and not applying it was my experience exactly. I would say the aha moment for me came when I realized that some of the gurus were contradicting each other, made me realize that the great idea is the one that you take action on and not necessarily the one that seems to be the greatest.
I also like the whole beta version, taking the pressure off and getting your stuff out there without it being perfect. Version one is better than version none.
Thank you Derek, I will tweet this, I think my tribe will like it
